Waterwaarde/ Value of water

The goal of the project "Value out of Water" is to isolate volatile fatty acids and lactic acid from the processwater of paper- and boardmills. This project is part of the Biorefineryprogramm that fits in the Energy Transition Paperchain which aims at innovative solutions to make more value out of raw materials. Fatty acids and lactic acid are common unwanted components that are produced under anaerob conditions in the processwater of a papermill. Biocides are dosed to control the bacteriagrowth in the watersystem but this only controls the amount of fatty acids and lactic acid to a certain degree. The acids that are still formed eventually come in the watertreatmentplant where they are digested and converted into energy in most cases. In this project a pilotinstallation will be built and tested to isolate fatty acids and lactic acid from processwater of the paperindustry and field test will be done to find the most suitable location in the papermaking process. By extracting the volatile fatty acids and lactic acid from the processwatersystem the current dosage of expensive biocides might become obsolete in the future, processdisturbances will become less etcetera...
