Briljant
Briljant - Surface treatment solutions for dry energy reduction
Energy reduction is one of the main issues in (Dutch) paper and board industry. During production 48% of the energy is used to dry the paper board. There are two ways of reducing energy consumption. First is to improve efficiency of the energy used the other is to reduce the amount of water that needs to be evaporated.
Objectives and aims
Briljant focuses on the latter by reducing the amount of water put into the paper during procurement of the paper with sizing, laminating or coating. The main focus is on sizing and laminating. Objective of Briljant is to reduce the total energy consumption with 10% by developing economic viable high dry content sizing and glue agents and to improve effectiveness and control of the equipment e.g. by developing sensors which can be used to control the end product quality effected by the procurement process. For instance a stiffness sensor to control sizing.
Partners within Briljant
The project is a cooperation between Abeco, BUMAGA BV, Coldenhove papier Eerbeek, Eska Graphic Board, Kenniscentrum Papier en Karton, Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier, Solidpack and WUR Agrotechnology and Food.
Duration
The project is started in September 2007 and will finish in September 2010. The total project budget is 1 million Euro where over 625.000 is funded by SenterNovem.
